Administrators put the school into lockdown after they were alerted to a potential weapon on campus early Monday morning, the school said in a message to parents. School leaders called police who began a search of the 140 Arn-How Farm Rd school to find the student they believed had a knife.
Police found the 17-year-old with three other students in the school's library. He had a pocket knife on him, police said. A 16-year-old student who was with him carried a kitchen knife. Officers arrested both of them and charged the boys with carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds, Fitchburg police said.
It's unclear why they brought the weapons to school or if they had any intentions of using them. Authorities did not release the teens' names because of their age.
This was the second instance of students being caught bringing weapons to school in Massachusetts on Monday. In Boston, a student was stabbed twice at Jeremiah E. Burke High School just after 11 a.m.
